Valentine Cards for the School

Have fun with your kids making these cute Valentine Cards:

What you need:

- White paper
- Red paper
- Scissors (or a heart shaped puncher)
- Glue stick
- Red marker

Cut the white paper to make the cards. You choose the size.
Using scissors (or a heart shaped puncher) cut little red hearts.
Glue the little hearts to the cards. You can add one or more to the front of the card, and one or more inside the card.
Add colorful stickers or a little red ribbon if you have at home.
Write a message on your very special Valentine card.
Finally, you may attach a chocolate or candy to the card.
Kids will love it!

Here's our Valentine's Day Message in a Bottle "cards" for the preschool class a few years ago. We used empty, washed VitaminWater bottles and filled them with candy, stickers, a pencil and a hand drawn picture/card. We're just about 90% done. The sample completed bottle is the handwritten label, but below that you see the actual labels we're using. I printed Happy Valentine's Day, From Kira 2009 on the labels, and then she use rubber stamps for the hearts and flowers. I started with a label that went completely around the bottle, but Kira agreed with me that it looks better with the smaller label so you can see the contents inside.

Tonight, I have to put the labels on all of the bottles, and then tie one a lollipop with ribbon. The lollipops were just a tad to wide to fit in the bottle.

I love my daughter's art and naturally, I think she's very talented. Over the years we have collected quite a bit of her work, many of it is displayed on our kitchen walls, and much more is stored under our beds. That said, I have to admit that I have become overwhelmed by the shear volume of her art as of late. So I finally figured out how to fully enjoy it all without being depressed about it being stuck under the bed. Here's what I did - I scanned in several of my favorites and made them into an animated grahic. That graphic is now the background on my computer screen. If we had one of those digital photo frames, I could also put it there. Certainly now the grandparents will get a copy of these for their frames.

So guess what? I'm now offering this as a service! Bring out your collections of art and let me produce your own animated graphics. I will give you 1) a scanned copy of each piece of art; 2) a completed animated graphic in two sizes; and 3) all of your artwork will be returned, unharmed. Here are some suggestions on how to get the most out of your bows. Save money and have fun with it.

The POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

Do you have all those baby bows left that your girl has outgrown? Well you can still use them. Make your own layered interchangable bows and save the money.
Bows need to be on partially lined aligator clips and flat centers.

Also this is how to care for your bows.
I use sta-flo starch (can be found in the laundry ilse) and water to keep my bows from getting floppy. Mixed 1/2 and 1/2 and put in a spray bottle. Spray and let dry. Do this as often as it is needed.

I enjoy doing thing in new ways, so today, I decided to peel my avocado like I would peel an orange. Then I was able to get nice round slices - something different for your morning eggs. :)

Dr. Seuss on the loose!!

Quick idea! Take an old shirt, grab a picture book - scan your favorite pic and iron it on!

In all of my planning, I forgot to find a Dr. Seuss shirt for my dd, so in the eleventh hour (literally, lol), I pulled out some library books, flipped through until I found a good picture, and scanned it. Then, I rummaged through the t-shirt drawer, found an all cotton blank shirt that we'd been using for layering, and ironed the pic on. The key is to keep the iron on transfer sheets handy (you can get them at your local office supply store), and to follow the directions carefully. The most important part of the ironing is to apply as much pressure as you can with a DRY iron. Iron on the floor, unless it's carpeted - then you should use a low table so you can apply all of your upper body strength.

The shirt is from Old Navy, the skirt is H&M - given to us from a friend.

Kaleidoscope birthday invitations!

If you were paying attention and ordered the kaleidoscopes from the earlier note, you can make your own just like these! We found cute cupcake wrapping paper at Target to wrap each Kaleidoscope with. Then print the invitation, punch a hole in the top, and wrap the kaleidoscope with coordinating ribbon. Voila - super fancy, not to pricey invitations that didn't take all day! The kids will love them, and the actual invitation comes off for the parents to tie up somewhere so they can see all of the details.

What's next? Birthday surprises!

We're about a month away from my daughter's birthday, so I have plenty of time to go crazy with surprises. Plus, I have to plan a party for her preschool class and her regular party. If I go completely insane, I might do a special sleepover party, too.
Here are some of my early thoughts:

Preschool party

We have enough time to make some really cool favors for the kids. We're thinking of planting some seeds in tiny pots so each kid can take the plant home as their favor. If we plant them now, we'll have time for them to germinate and even grow a bit. We just have to select the seeds carefully so that the time frame works out.

For the actual party, Kira has been saving some recyclable goods (papertowel holders, water bottles, etc. in order to make some games to play in class. That with some fun party music will probably do us.

Month long Surprises

I'm planning to do daily surprises starting on the first and ending on her actual birthday. We just did this for daddy, so she'll be expecting it. This is a work in progress, but here are some of the ideas: each day she'll get a few puzzle pieces from a real puzzle with a message written on the back. She'll also get something cool like a key chain with a light and a pic of the family (something she asked for). There will be coupons for a trip to our Gelato store and special playdates. Little toys saved from McDonalds, a note from daddy, etc.

I'm open to more ideas and I'd really love if you'd share your thoughts!
